How Petrol Australia Works
Petrol Australia pulls live pump prices from official Australian government fuel price feeds and puts them on a map. Prices update continuously — when a station changes its price, you see it within minutes.
What you see when you open the app
The app opens to the Map tab showing fuel stations near your current location. Each marker shows the current pump price for your selected fuel type. Markers are colour-coded:
- Green — cheap (bottom third of current prices)
- Grey — average
- Red — expensive (top third)
Switch to List view to see stations ranked by price. The cheapest option appears first — no tapping into every brand to compare.
Three main tabs

Fuel type filter
Prices are shown for one fuel type at a time. Tap the fuel selector to switch between:
- ULP (91)
- E10
- PULP (95)
- 98 RON
- Diesel
- LPG
- E85
Your selected fuel type persists across sessions. Set it once and the map always shows your fuel.
Station details
Tap any station to see:
- Current pump price
- How it compares to the state average (e.g. "13.4c below average")
- Last updated time
- Address and trading name
- One-tap directions (opens Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze)
- Option to compare with another station
- Option to set a price alert
- Option to favourite the station
- Data source badge (Government Verified or User Reported)
Data sources
Petrol Australia uses official government feeds as the primary source. No guessing, no aggregation from third parties.

Free vs account features
The map, list view, station details, and insights are available without an account. Creating a free account unlocks:
- Price alerts — get notified when a station drops below your target price
- Favourites — save up to 10 stations
- Vehicle setup — enter your tank size and fuel economy for accurate comparison calculations
- Fill-up tracking — log every fill, track cost per litre over time
- Home location — save your area so notifications are relevant
- Home screen widget — cheapest nearby price without opening the app
