Station Compare — Is It Worth the Drive?

The cheaper station on the map might not actually be cheaper once you factor in the extra fuel to drive there. Station Compare does the maths.

How to compare two stations

From the map:

  1. Tap a station → tap Compare
  2. Tap a second station on the map
  3. The compare sheet opens automatically

From the Nearby list:

  1. Tap any station → tap Compare
  2. Tap Select second station
  3. Pick from the list

What the comparison shows

Station cards

Each station shows:

  • Brand logo and trading name
  • Current pump price for your selected fuel type
  • Price band (cheap / average / expensive)
  • Distance from your location
  • Effective price after any enrolled discount programs

Savings breakdown

Metric How it's calculated
Gross savings Price difference (c/L) × tank size (L)
Extra drive cost Round-trip extra km × fuel economy (L/100km) × avg price
Net savings Gross savings − extra drive cost
Break-even gap How many c/L cheaper the far station needs to be to cover the drive
Extra drive time Based on distance and speed estimate (60 km/h for <5 km, 50 km/h for 5–30 km, 80 km/h for >30 km)
CO₂ delta Extra km × fuel economy × 2.31 kg CO₂ per litre
Queue risk +5 minutes added if the cheaper station is in the "cheap" band during peak times (Fri–Sun or 3–6 PM)

Recommendation

The app gives one of three verdicts:

  • Go to cheaper station — Net saving ≥ $2 and extra drive < 10 minutes
  • Modest saving — Net saving $0.50–$2 (your call)
  • Stay closer — Net saving ≤ $0 after drive cost (extra fuel costs more than the price saving)

If both stations are within 5c/L of each other, the app recommends the closer station regardless of savings.

Best results: set your vehicle

Without a vehicle set, comparison uses a default tank size and economy. For accurate dollar figures, go to Set up your vehicle first.
