LPG Prices in Australia — Where to Find LPG

LPG (autogas) is still sold across Australia, but the network of stations carrying it has been shrinking for years — which makes finding LPG as important as pricing it. Petrol Australia shows live LPG prices from official government feeds and lets you filter the whole map to LPG-only.

How to find LPG stations near you

  1. Open Petrol Australia and set the fuel type filter to LPG
  2. The map now shows only stations that sell LPG, each with its live price
  3. Favourite your reliable LPG stations (Favourites) — with a thinning network, knowing your backups matters

If the map looks sparse in your area, that's real: many stations have removed LPG bowsers, and coverage is concentrated in the capitals and along major highways.

How is LPG priced in Australia?

LPG tracks the international Saudi CP (Contract Price) benchmark for propane/butane, plus local costs and margins. Notes:

  • LPG attracts a lower federal excise than petrol and diesel, which is a big part of why its per-litre price is lower
  • LPG doesn't run the sharp weekly discounting cycle petrol does — prices move more gradually
  • A litre of LPG contains less energy than a litre of petrol, so a fair comparison needs roughly 25–30% more litres of LPG for the same distance — the per-litre price advantage narrows, but usually survives, that adjustment

Which states report LPG prices?

All state and territory feeds report LPG at stations that sell it — NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, TAS, ACT, and the NT (MyFuel NT). WA's FuelWatch locks LPG prices for 24 hours like all WA fuel prices. See Coverage by state.

LPG and discount programs

Watch the fine print: some member discounts treat LPG differently. RAC (WA) and RACQ (QLD) include LPG in their 4c/L Caltex discount; RAA Regional (SA) excludes LPG. The app's station details sheet shows whether your enrolled discount applies to your selected fuel. See Fuel discounts Australia.
