FuelWatch WA Explained — Tomorrow's Prices Today

FuelWatch is Western Australia's government fuel price scheme — and it works differently to every other state. WA law locks each station's price for a full 24 hours, and tomorrow's prices are published the evening before. That means WA drivers can genuinely know tomorrow's price today.

Petrol Australia shows the FuelWatch feed live for every registered WA station, from Perth metro to Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Broome, and beyond.

How does FuelWatch work?

Under WA's Fuel Watch scheme:

  1. Every fuel retailer must submit their next-day price by 2 PM each day.
  2. That price takes effect at 6 AM the following morning.
  3. The price is then locked until 5:59 AM the day after — no mid-day changes allowed.

No other Australian state locks prices this way. In Sydney or Melbourne a station can reprice at any time of day; in WA, the price you see at breakfast is the price at dinner.

What time does FuelWatch update?

Prices change once per day at 6 AM. Retailers submit their next-day prices by 2 PM the day before, so tomorrow's prices are known from the afternoon onward.

How do I see tomorrow's Perth fuel prices?

Because WA retailers submit next-day prices by 2 PM, tomorrow's prices exist tonight. Practical upshot for WA drivers:

  • If prices are rising tomorrow, fill up tonight before 6 AM.
  • If prices are falling tomorrow, wait and fill after 6 AM.

Petrol Australia's Insights panel tracks the WA price trend and tells you whether today is a good day to fill or whether holding off is likely to pay.

What's the cheapest day to buy fuel in Perth?

Perth still runs a weekly price cycle, just a more orderly one thanks to the 24-hour lock. The cheapest day is typically Wednesday or Thursday. Check Insights for the live cycle position rather than relying on the calendar — public holidays and oil price moves shift the pattern.

Which fuels does FuelWatch cover?

FuelWatch publishes ULP (91), Diesel, and LPG. It does not collect E10, 95, or 98 RON prices, so those fuel types aren't available for WA in any app that uses the official feed — including ours. See Fuel prices Western Australia.

FuelWatch vs Petrol Australia — what's the difference?

Petrol Australia shows the same official FuelWatch data, plus:

  • Price alerts on your regular station (Price alerts)
  • RAC member discounts applied to the map, so you see your real price at participating Caltex stations (RAC fuel discount)
  • Cheapest-in-view, station compare, and route planning across all of WA and every other state
